UNSW students became Didi Aid Assistants
Twenty two students from the University of New South Wales took part in a Didi Aid Tour in November, contributing hugely to the education, health and wellbeing of disadvantaged children in Nepal.
In the eight-day visit they experienced family life in Kathmandu, through a homestay and worked at our sponsored school near Bhuktapur. At this school they did practice English, computer lessons, did health checks and also had fun time with movies. Then our Didi Angels were off for the long and windy trip to a remote part of Eastern Nepal where they once again went ‘above and beyond’ working at another disadvantaged boarding school. Everywhere they went they left a positive foot print and promoted equality in education.
Through crowd-funding, the students were able to contribute to the work of Didi Nepal. Our Didi Angels purchased three new computers and had the internet connected and funded for a year at one school, and they also funded a badminton court, distributed lots of warm clothing, carried out medical check-ups and took part in a school beautification project.
Everywhere our Didi Angels went they sprinkled bucket loads of their magical stardust on the lives of so many disadvantaged children.
Health checks for children
We were so lucky to have Dr Helen join the Didi Aid team in November. With the support of the Didi Angels, Dr Helen was able to run basic medical check-ups on children at two of our outreach schools. The team documented their findings and have compiled a report for future investigation. For many children this was the first time they had ever seen a medical professional. The Medical team carried out basic hearing tests on the children at the deaf school, with some interesting results. Stay tuned as our medical journey unfolds.
A huge thank you goes to Veronica and the UNSW Didi Aid Team. You were awesome plus. Also thanks for such positive evaluations at the end of the Didi Aid experience.
