Literacy and Numeracy Course at Didi Vocational Centre

Empowering Women through Education, One Step at a Time

At Didi Vocational Centre, we recognise the transformative power of education. For many women in our community, whether it be socio-economic and cultural systems they have endured barriers to learning. Many have had to leave school early or never had the opportunity to attend school. As a result, they have not learnt to read, write, or perform basic math. Our Literacy and Numeracy Course offers a chance for women to break free from these constraints and start a new chapter in their lives, regardless of their age or caste.

Course Overview

The Senior Literacy and Numeracy Course offers a safe and supportive environment where women can begin their learning journey in Nepali, giving them the tools to improve their day-to-day lives and interact with the world around them.

What Students Will Learn:

  • Nepali: Learn to read and write in Nepali, enabling women to engage more confidently in their community and personal lives.
  • Literacy Skills: Develop the ability to read signs, documents, and other basic written information. This includes the ability to recognise important daily items like bus schedules, store signs, and official documents.
  • Numeracy Skills: Learn how to add, subtract, and handle simple numbers, empowering women to manage personal finances, run small businesses, and handle basic transactions.

Why Choose this Course?

For many women, the simple act of signing their name or reading a bus schedule can be life changing. The course is not just about reading or writing—it’s about opening doors to new opportunities and improving confidence in everyday tasks. Women in this course can navigate their communities, manage personal finances, and engage with their families in ways they never could before.

Examples of Transformation:

  • “I can now read the names on the buses.” No longer needing to rely on others to know where the bus is going, women can now travel independently and with confidence.
  • “I can now teach my grandchildren the alphabet.” Women who were unable to read before are now empowered to teach future generations, passing on the gift of education.
  • “Now that I can add numbers, I’ve started selling vegetables on the side of the road.” With newly acquired numeracy skills, women can start small businesses, contributing to their family’s income and gaining financial independence.
