I have been a sponsor of Bright Future Learning Centre since its inception, and I have gained so much joy in watching these children grow from undernourished, sick babies into healthy and confident teenagers. I have visited three times and feel very much a part of their lives. They now have a rite of passage to success.

A Success Story of Sustainable Development
Established in 2011 by founder Jan Pryor, the Bright Future Learning Centre is a perfect example of how sustainable development can change lives. The journey began after Jan was deeply moved by the story of two orphaned children in desperate need of care. Together with her good friend Linda Alcorn, they decided to create a safe home for children, where they could receive love, care, education, and the opportunity to thrive.
The centre was initially located in Pepsicola, Kathmandu, occupying the ground floor of a modern house. It provided a secure living environment, nutritious food, and quality education for six children, all from impoverished and challenging backgrounds. The centre was managed by a dedicated supervisor and a live-in house mum, who worked tirelessly to ensure the children’s well-being.
Over nine years, the centre became a hub of activity, full of teenage laughter, learning, and life skills training. The children participated in extracurricular activities such as dance and sports, and as they entered college their serious approach to education, helped them build the foundation for their futures.
Thanks to the incredible generosity of our supporters, the children at the centre were able to enjoy basic luxuries that many take for granted, including purified drinking water, hot water, nutritious meals, and modern appliances. Educational technologies also helped enhance their learning experience, setting them up for success in life.
However, like many institutions worldwide, COVID-19 had a significant impact. In 2020, the pandemic forced us to make difficult decisions. The centre was closed, and three of the girls moved to supervised independent living arrangements at our managers family home, while the other three joined their families. Despite these changes, we continue to provide support, ensuring that they could complete their education and gain employment.
Today, we are incredibly proud of their achievements. Thanks to our sponsors, most have successfully completed their education and are on the path to exciting careers. One graduated with a diploma in Civil Engineering and Geomatic Engineering, both gaining employment while two will graduate with a diploma in Veterinary Science in 2025. One of the girls has also gained employment as an Air Hostess on a national airline.
A huge thank you to all our sponsors, many of whom have supported us from the very beginning. Your generosity has made this journey possible, and we are excited to watch these young adults continue to succeed and become game-changers in their communities. We hope they, too, will make their own social impact and inspire and support others along the way.
