We did it!
We are really excited that the Didi Building Appeal target of $30,000 has been reached and Stage 1 of the project is nearing completion.
Our Didi team would really like to thank every person, club and group who donated to this project. Your generosity will empower so many highly disadvantaged women and give them an opportunity to succeed.
This project would not have come in on budget and on time if it was not for our awesome Nepali team who have worked tirelessly and been there to count every brick and every item on delivery. Thanks go to Sudip Koirala and Jagdish Koirala, and a special thank you to the girls in our team, Jyoti Dhal and Laxmi Koirala, who make it all possible.
The internal fitting of the building has commenced and courses will begin in the new centre in late October. The new Didi Vocational Centre has been officially registered and this will now entitle us to undertake government funded certificate courses. The official opening will be held on 25th April 2019.
Stay tuned for Stage 2 when we take the next step forward and construct the top floor and will need to raise another AUD $30,000.
We are so honoured to have such wonderful and dedicated supporters who believe in THE DIDI FOUNDATION.

Didi extended a warm welcome to His Excellency Peter Budd, Australian Ambassador to Nepal when he visited the Didi Headquarters on 12 April to see the work being done by our organisation to empower women. Mayor Krishna Hari Thapa was also present to support this momentous day.
His Excellency met with women who are engaged in a range of vocational training programs. He visited the sewing workshop where women make re-usable sanitary pads that Didi distributes to school girls and to women in need, as part of their welfare program. Didi Nepal also showcased their social enterprise business that manufactures aprons and bags that are sold on the open market. H.E.also paid a visit to Mulpani where construction continues on building the new Didi Headquarters.
Jan Pryor, Founder said: “We are honoured that H.E. Pete gave up his valuable time to visit Didi Foundation and for his appreciation of the tireless work done by the Didi Nepal team to support underprivileged women.”

The first floor slab was poured last week and once the concrete has cured, the brickwork will commence for the first floor. It’s very exciting to watch the building grow and I look forward to posting more pictures very soon.

Our small cramped space at Didi Headquarters of three rooms and a small kitchen is a hive of activity with up 70 women attending classes every day. Empowering women through vocational education ensures sustainable futures especially for young women.
Didi can boast some really good statistics
From all of our courses: Sewing, numeracy and literacy, computers and government initiated projects our statistics prove that we are doing the right thing.
- 835 women have graduated from vocational courses at Didi Headquarters
- 85% success rate of women gaining employment by attending a sewing course, computer course or government initiated projects.
- 64% of women have established their own businesses. This incorporates women graduating from the literacy and numeracy program and sewing school
Everyone is looking forward to having a new Didi Headquarters so we can expand our courses and train more women.
